South Kesteven District Council has apologised after a billing error led to August council tax payments being collected early from residents' accounts through direct debit.

The council confirmed that some residents were affected by the premature payment collection and said it will ensure that no customer is financially disadvantaged as a result.

Getting a refund

Residents experiencing financial difficulty can claim a refund through the Direct Debit Indemnity scheme, which the council says is the fastest way to restore money to an account. Further details are available at www.directdebit.co.uk/help/how-to-claim.

The council has said that officers are available to help residents make a claim. Those who need assistance can contact the council directly on 01476 406080.

No further payments will be taken

Customers who have not been affected by the error and who do not claim a refund can be reassured that no further council tax payment for August will be taken from their accounts.
