Check your next bin collection

Enter your postcode and choose your address on South Kesteven District Council’s official checker to see your Grantham collection dates.

  1. Open the council page and choose Postcode bin day checker. Enter your postcode in Collection Address and press Search.
  2. Follow the address-selection prompts, then use Next for your property’s collection information. Use the result for your address, rather than a neighbouring street’s dates.
  3. Use the current 2026–27 calendar. For a green garden bin, check whether your address follows the light blue or dark blue schedule.

Which Grantham bin or caddy should I put out?

South Kesteven publishes separate 2026–27 calendars for black, silver and purple-lid bins and for green garden-waste bins. Find your address schedule first, then use the colours below to choose the right container. Put bins or sacks out by 7am.

The orange-lidded outdoor food caddy is emptied every week on your usual bin or bag day. Empty the indoor caddy into it, remove food packaging and keep liquids out. Close the lid and move the handle forward to lock it for collection.

Green garden-bin collections need a subscription. The council’s current FAQ says they run fortnightly, with one collection a month from December to February. Use the address checker and garden calendar for your exact dates.

If nobody in your household can put the waste out, check the council’s assisted-collection service. The council assesses eligibility and can provide temporary or permanent help.

Black bin — general waste
Non-recyclable rubbish, including nappies, plastic film and crisp packets. Keep batteries, electrical items and garden waste out.
Silver bin — mixed recycling
Accepted glass, cans, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays and cartons. Put them in clean, dry and loose; paper and card belong in the purple-lidded bin.
Purple-lidded bin — paper and card
Dry paper and flattened cardboard, including newspapers and clean packaging. Keep wet paper, tissues, food-soiled takeaway boxes and glitter cards out.
Green bin — garden waste
Loose grass, hedge cuttings, leaves and small branches for subscribed collections. No soil, food waste or plastic bags.
Orange-lidded outdoor caddy — food waste
Food scraps, peelings, meat and bones, tea bags and coffee grounds. Empty your kitchen caddy into this outdoor container for weekly collection.

Missed bin?

Report a missed collection after 3pm on collection day and within two working days. Your bin or sacks must have been out by 7am at the edge of your property or the agreed collection point. The lid must close, the contents must be accepted for that bin, and there must be no side waste. Recycling in black bags will not be collected. Check the council’s form for the full reporting rules.

Bank holidays and changed collections

Food-waste collections can change around Christmas. South Kesteven says it will announce revised dates in advance. Recheck your address calendar and current council updates before putting containers out. When collection changes affect Grantham, we cover them in our local news.
