Four Lincolnshire Specsavers stores have joined forces to become headline sponsors of Broken XI cricket club for 2026. The stores in Grantham, Bourne, Lincoln and Sleaford are backing the recreational cricket team, which provides support and opportunities for people facing various life challenges.
Broken XI operates with a mission to help members get back on their feet through cricket. The sponsorship will help keep player costs low and allow the club to expand its reach to more people in need of support.
Community Recognition and Club Goals
The club was recently nominated by the local community for a BBC Radio Lincolnshire 'Make a Difference Award'. Barry Howorth, Broken XI chairman, said the sponsorship would be vital to maintaining accessibility for all members. "We believe that a person's financial situation shouldn't prevent them from joining the club and starting their journey with us," he said.
Why Local Opticians Stepped In
Colin Ducker, store director at Specsavers Grantham, explained the decision to sponsor the club. "The Broken XI is a cricket club like no other, so when the opportunity arose to sponsor them, it was a no brainer. What's even better is that we've been able to team up with other local stores, which means we can make a real impact for a club that means so much to the community."
The club welcomes members who are out of sport due to injury, struggling with mental health, or looking for a place to belong.
