West Grantham C of E Primary Academy on Trent Road has been praised following a visit by Gareth Davies MP (Grantham and Bourne) in July 2026.

Headteacher Natalie Smyth said the school was "delighted with the positive feedback" from the visit. "Mr Davies was able to take a tour and also hear about our children's achievements. He was very supportive in his feedback and commented on how calm and purposeful our environments are, and how our children were all positively engaged in their work."

Strong Results in Phonics and Maths

During the visit, Smyth shared recent statutory data outcomes. The school achieved a 91% pass rate in the Year 1 phonics screening check, well above the national average.

Multiplication check results were particularly strong: 69% of children achieved full marks, well above the previous national average of 32% and the predicted current national average of around 44%. A further 84% of pupils achieved over 20 marks in the screening.

Choir Performance

The West Grantham C of E Primary Academy Choir performed a song for Davies during his visit. Year 3 pupil Harper said, "I loved singing our special song." Year 6 pupil Christiana, also a member of the choir, said, "At first I felt a bit nervous to sing in front of an important person, but then I remembered to just breathe and I felt better!"

Smyth said, "What an honour and a privilege to show MP Gareth Davies around our wonderful school! I am proud to lead at West Grantham Primary; the children and staff make our school so special.
