Staff at Royal Windsor Care Home in Grantham have completed training using the Training2Care Virtual Dementia Bus, an immersive simulation designed to build understanding of dementia and improve person-centred care.
The Virtual Dementia Tour gave team members insight into the physical and sensory challenges experienced by people living with dementia. Through specially designed simulations, staff experienced some of the confusion and anxiety that can accompany the condition.
Understanding Residents' Experiences
The training is intended to help staff build empathy and a deeper understanding of residents' everyday experiences. Denise Stephenson, Managing Director for Royal Windsor Care Home, said the experience was "incredibly powerful" for the team.
"It has encouraged us to reflect on how we communicate, support and care for our residents, helping us to create an environment where they feel safe, understood and valued," Stephenson said.
Supporting Families and Community
Royal Windsor Care Home is committed to strengthening links with dementia communities, support groups and organisations in Grantham and the surrounding area. The home aims to share knowledge and connect families with additional support.
Stephenson added that the home recognises the importance of supporting families and building strong relationships with the wider dementia community. "We want Royal Windsor to be a place where residents and their loved ones feel supported, but also a home that plays an active role in connecting with and contributing to our local community," she said.
Royal Windsor Care Home provides residential, dementia and respite care with a focus on dignity, independence and helping residents live fulfilling lives.
