Grantham East councillor Cain Parkinson has launched a petition calling on Lincolnshire County Council to keep the Harrowby playing fields in community hands, rather than allow the land to be sold to developers.
Current use of the site
The site, formerly the old Grantham Church/St Wulfram's School, has been used for years by Harrowby United's youth and girls' teams, as well as local charity and community events.
Background to the dispute
Cllr Parkinson says the previous Conservative-run council had agreed to lease the land to the football club to protect it as a community asset. He is now asking residents to help stop the current Reform administration from proceeding with a sale.
This is not the first time he has raised the issue. Cllr Parkinson left Reform for the Conservatives in April, citing the council's handling of Harrowby FC's access to the land as one of his reasons for switching parties.
How to have your say
Cllr Parkinson has published a video explaining the issue further. Residents can sign the petition at https://tally.so/r/VLBJpE.
