Grantham Museum is hosting a public talk about the restoration and return of its historic Compton theatre organ on Friday 25 September 2026 at 6pm.
The event, titled "Bringing the Compton Home: The Story, Science, and Legacy of a Remarkable Organ", will be presented by Carl Heslop, a Trustee and Vice-Chair of Grantham Museum and Chairman of the East Midlands Organ Museum.
What the talk will cover
The presentation will explore the history of the Compton organ, the science and engineering behind theatre organ sound, and the story of how the instrument found its way back to Grantham.
Viv Reichelt, Chair of the Museum, said the talk offers an opportunity to learn about the instrument beyond its visible pipes and keyboards. "Whether you are already an organ enthusiast or simply curious about how these incredible instruments work, we hope people will join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening," Reichelt said.
